The Gulf coast is full of red snappers, but fisherman are limited to catching just two. The population was overfished during the 1980's and a limit was put in place. The fish have since made an impressive comeback, but they still have not fully recovered. They are still protected under Federal law.

Fisherman Doug Pike says, " Until they're satisfied that the recovery is complete, they're not going to raise the limit. I can't remember a time when they did that."

The limit applies to recreational fishers who are only allowed to fish during June and July.
